About Ceylon Nutmeg

Nutmeg is a spice made from the seed of the nutmeg tree (Myristica fragrant), and it has a fresh, rich aroma and a woody, bittersweet flavor with hints of clove. Nutmeg is the inner seed, while mace is the red, lace-like substance that covers the seed. When used in cakes, breads, pastries, fruit dishes and pies it pairs well with ginger, cinnamon and cloves. When used in lamb, mutton, meat stews, spinach dishes, veal, vegetable recipes and even pasta sauces, it pairs well with cumin, coriander, pepper and thyme.

To make nutmeg for seasoning, the nutmeg seeds are dried gradually in the sun over a period of six to eight weeks. During this time, the nutmeg shrinks away from its hard seed coat. The spice is ready when the kernels rattle in their shells when shaken. It is separated from the outer coat (the mace).

Cloves are the unopened flower buds of a tree in the family Myrtaceae, Syzygium aromaticum. They have been in use for a long time for treating inflammation and aiding diabetes treatment. Studies have shown that the eugenol in cloves works as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. Our traditional method of sun drying helps to protect the flavor and the oil content. As a result, the color of our clove can be found in dark brown other than the lighter brown or red color.

CEYLON CLOVES FROM SRI LANKA – Sri Lankan cloves are highly aromatic and has a higher oil content. Adour and flavor are unique features. They have a spicy and pungent taste and are known for their medicinal properties.

HAND SELECTED – Each clove is selected by hand before packing them in a resealable pouch, and we ensure over 90% of the cloves in the pouch come with clove head.

SUN-DRIED – We use traditional method of sun drying not very hot sun and a minimum of 72 hours instead of drying in 2 hours using the drying machine. As a result, it keeps a very high oil level with dark brown color.

QUALITY AND FRESHNESS – As quality is a part of our mission, we import products directly once it was released from our factory in Sri Lanka, so we ensure customers receive a fresh product with a fresh manufactured date.
